Dear gardening enthusiasts, I have just purchased a Cercis Canadensis eternal flame and I have potted it in a terracotta pot, a little bit bigger than the root ball. A gardener has made me aware of how difficult it is to find this tree over here in nurseries and he mentioned that if it's in a pot, somebody may steal it. My front garden is quite exposed. I was thinking of planting it in the ground for this reason but I read online that this tree in particular doesn't like to have its roots disturbed and so I am hesitating to plant it into the ground the same week. How long should I wait before repotting/replanting it? thanks!

This being fall/autumn, it’s a perfect time to plant trees. You can replant it tomorrow if you want, it won’t hurt it. It should be mostly dormant. You can even wash the soil off the roots and remove any curling or bent ones so that it will grow more vigorously.

Thanks so much!
