I need help please. We thought we had planted an herb in 2 pots, but now I'm not sure what we planted. Can anyone identify this please?

Where do you live/what usda zone? I agree maybe zinnia, or Shasta Daisy?

Greetings, welcome to the Forums.

The leaves look like those of Sweet-William (Dianthus barbatus var. barbatus) a biennial or short-lived perennial, in the Pink Family (Caryophyllaceae), native to southern Europe, and widely grown as a garden ornamental.
