I don't know how it's spelled, but it sounded like Laah-rows. I've done a bit of googling in the past and other people have asked about the same phrase - seems to be specific to Norfolk though. Another thing she says in the same context is 'Bread and pullit'. Norfolk people are weird

Can't find anything to back it up but I was wondering if it was Rose and not rows?

I've made Rose Hip & Medlar Jelly before, so that might make more sense?

I always find it interesting when at my age there are still things I've never heard of in the gardening world! This is one of them. They do seem to be quite the forgotten fruit since I had never even heard the name before. I'm curious to know now whether they are grown locally anywhere here. I'll have to do some more research!

Yeah could well be! I've asked Grandma about it before and she doesn't know what it means or how it's spelled - her father used to say it, so who knows!

Lost in the cloudy jelly of time then :D

And remember, time flies like an arrow & fruit flies like a banana :)

Oh no! You need a cat :D

That was at the last place in Somerset, not found a Medlar tree in Dorset yet

Shakespeare was always banging on about them...

Now will he sit under a medlar tree,
And wish his mistress were that kind of fruit
As maids call medlars, when they laugh alone.
O Romeo, that she were, O that she were
An open-arse and thou a pop'rin pear!

Think that might be rude :cautious:

Haha, those rats are picky!
I've never eaten medlars, this is the first time I hear about them, but I think I'd like them, because I like most fruits:)

To be honest, I've never eaten Custard either:p But I've just googled it and I see that it's made of milk and eggs, so I'm pretty sure I'd like it. It looks like eggnog in the pictures:D
