Hello, all. I will likely be a lurker and not that great a contributor, yet. I am going to need soooooo much help with my terrible gardening skills. I hear you are supposed to water plants apparently.

I am excited to learn about plants and their benefits. I am doing my best to eat a primarily raw food diet and detox my body using plants and vegetables. It gets expensive, so I would love to be able to harvest my own using all the tips I learn in this forum.

Do you have opportunity to grow plants? Garden space or sunny porch or window sills?
Sprouting beans and seeds is one way to supply yourself with food for a raw diet.

When potatoes were first introduced into Europe, they were eaten raw, hence the French name "pommes de terre".

The problem with a raw food diet is that most vegetable protein should really be cooked, or you can intox.

Welcome to Gardening Forums

As Arthur Daley once said to Terry when he said he was off to a Karaoke evening, "Oh don't eat that, that's raw you know." :D

If you are new to gardening, then sprouts might really be a good way to ease into caring for plants. You just need a quart jar, add some sprouting seeds ( lentils are a great one to start with), soak them over night, and the rinse a couple times a day for the next few days. Then they are ready to go in the refrigerator, and be used on salads, or whatever.
Since sprouts have about 30 times more nutrients than the grown vegetable does, it is a goldmine for health.

Slightly know the show. Was Terry a vegetarian or was Arthur being Arthur?

Wow, what a warm welcome! I have something I bought called an "easy sprouter" and I sprout mung beans, lentils, and quinoa with it. My coworkers all have land and veggies and fruit trees and I am jealous. I have a balcony, but was going to buy some stuff for square foot gardening.

I want to plant things like kale and chard and parsley. I don't know how, but will gradually learn. I want to start eating from my own garden but will have to do things little by little.

The research I have been doing shows that animal protein needs to be cooked. Not veggies like spinach or swiss chard. I think the less processing, the better.

Hi there and welcome to gardening forums....I also have a balcony garden and you will be amazed at how much you can grow. I once had a large backyard garden and miss it something fierce but my balcony garden has given me lots of pleasure and veggies to eat:)
