Firewheel, Indian Blanket, Sundance, so many colorful, common names for this most handsome of prairie wildflowers.
Either an annual or short-lived perennial, Gaillardia pulchella, in the Sunflower tribe (Heliantheae) of the Daisy Family (Asteraceae),
is native to the central United States and northern Mexico.
I see this plant growing all over the place where I live. I dug some up from along side roadways, where they were constantly being mowed down and now they've spread to cover my entire yard, adjacent to the street.
