Hello I have just planted two Argentine Giant cacti in my backyard (my wife always wanted some) and reading up on them, there is a mention to fertilize them monthly with a "balanced fertilizer". I don't just want to walk in to my local Home Depot and ask for a generic fertilizer. Can you pls recommend a balanced fertilizer for cacti? I searched around the internet and found
  • Schultz Cactus Plus 2-7-7: NPK 2-7-7, liquid,
  • Grow More Cactus Juice 1-7-6: NPK 1-7-6, liquid,
  • Miracle-Gro Succulent Plant Food 0.5-1-1: NPK 0.5-1-1, liquid,
Any experience with these? Thank you

I wouldn't put fertilizer on your Argentine Giant until it needed it. The recommendations for fertilizer is wrong and will hurt the plant if you fertilize every month. They are extremely slow growers and don't use fertilizer like common plants.

They are not very tall, probably 3 feet or so -- nothing like saguaros or other cacti. They grow horizontally with daughter plants. This is the first time we planted them in our backyard but can be seen in town in various resorts and such. It is not a native plant, as its name suggests is probably from Argentina.

Used according to the label, fertilizer won’t hurt the plant, it just might not have much affect since it’s a slow-growing species. No need to feed it to make it look nice.
