Hello!

Does anybody have any experience with growing edelweiss from seeds? I am asking this because I have received some contradictory information about how to do it. Do I have to keep the seeds in the fridge for a couple of weeks before I sow them? Do I have to cover the seeds with soil or do I just sow them on the surface?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Putting the seeds in the fridge before sowing would not help at all. Maybe putting them in afterwards would help if they needed a period of cold. 30 0dd years since I did it so memory is not serving me well here. I think they need to be lightly covered with fine grit rather than compost.
I will ask on the Scottish Rock Garden site and see what their experts say.

I don't have first hand experience with them but some research shows me that if I were planting them, I would definitely stratify them first. Place the seeds in a damp paper towel, seal them in a plastic bag, and store them in the refrigerator for 4–6 weeks before planting.

Then when planting, because the seeds are so small, I would use shifted compost to cover them very lightly. Together those steps should get you some germination.

It would be interesting if you could get the seed to spout and grow. Keep us posted friend on how it turns out. Thanks for the post.
