This was going the rounds not long after decimalisation.

A guy goes into a woodyard.

"I want thirty-two feet of timber."

"Sorry sir, it's all metric now."

"OK then, give me ten metres."

"Ten metres you say sir?" Says the assistant looking at his tape measure.


Hmm....

Ten metres....

hmm..

let me see,

that's about thirty-two feet isn't it sir?"

Even now I can go into a woodyard and order timber in either Imperial or Metric, they have sophisticated cutting machines that they can imput either in its computer.

They were trying to teach us your way when I went to school .

I'm really good with the metric system, since I worked on a system that was designed in Italy and everything was metric and I watch all the cycling events, of course the best cycling is in Europe....more metrics...Yet, I still haven't tackled the Celsius thing...I'm still stuck on Fahrenheit.

Let's just say I'm honoring the German Physicist, Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit.

Eldest son is a consultant engineer.
Ordered some wall boxes for some heavy duty switchgear equipment, from the States about 20 years ago. Sent them the drawings and sizes in metric.

They made them in inches. Totally useless.
