I bought this ctenanthe plant about 7 weeks ago. Repotted it ina generic soil. I've watered it maybe 4 times. It is in the room with a west and a south facing window. The leaves are turning brown. I brought it outside today to take out of pot and evaluate roots. The roots look great. They are neither wet or dry. Any advice on what this might be happening. I'm wondering if the room is a really dry room. Thanks for any help.

After transplanting into a new soil and container, the plant will go through some stress. I don't think the plant is in trouble because the roots look so good. If it were me, I would unravel the roots on the bottom very gently, and then take a very sharp butcher knife and cut it in half and pot up the two halves into single pots. The plants will go through some stress and have a little die back in the beginning and look kind of bad for a while, but in a couple of weeks to a month they will take off with new growth.

I will show you what I'm talking about with this 12 year old Syngonium podophyllum. Below are some photos of a triple division which is pretty explanatory. When I made the division, I noticed how dry the plant was and so I gave it a big drink after the transplant. In a few weeks I'll report back and show you their progress so you can see what I'm talking about how easy it is.
