I have a small patio area and it has run across my mind several times lately to grow a few plants there. I'm talking bananas or apples, strawberries (we LOVE smoothies around here!) possibly potatoes and tomatoes. I'm not sure if it's possible though. I've plants a few bushes in a yard before (years ago) and wild flowers (I think). But the produce is new to me. It sounds like such a great, money-saving idea. I've heard of growing a tomato plant in a pot or something like that.

I'd really be curious to hear anyone's experience or input on this? Especially when it comes to strawberries and potatoes. Are potatoes even possible?

There are plenty of things you can grow on your patio! Of course it all depends on the size of it and how much sun you get. Strawberries are easy since they can be grown in hanging pots. Tomatoes come in low growing bush varieties specifically suited for the patio. Potatoes are possible if you grow them in a laundry basket - I did that last year. I also grew peanuts in a container.

I agree with ChanellG. I used to live in an apartement and I had a veggie garden on my balcony. It was very easy to make, you just have to have the room to do it. Potatoes, carrots, onions, peppers, tomatos, lettuce, and strawberries are all easy veggies and berries to grow in pots in small spaces.
