That is a Gecko. There are hundreds of species of them. The ones that roam around my house eat mosquitos and other tiny insects. People actually buy these lizards as pets.

That looks to me kind of like a type of salamander. This may help in identifying it...BTW, do you have water near by? If you're in the desert, then it's definitely a gecko

I stand corrected. That is a salamander. Salamanders have 4 fingers and 5 toes. Geckos have 5 of each.
