My mother in laws birthday was December 20th. Every one knows what the 25th of December is right?
On December 18th 1984 my inlaws after much delibration went to Belford Buick in Davison Michigan and ordered a new 1985 Buick LeSabre limited for my Mother in law. I don't think they knew at the time it would be badged as a collectors edition, the very last year LeSabres would be rear wheel drive.
Since the car was ordered just the way they wanted with gray and silver two tone paint, blue velore seats and blue interior over all. they had marked spoked hob caps in the book but I think dad had talked o people about them and learned they were awful to keep clean so opted for the Rallye wheels instead. they had to wait for the car to be assembled in Kanasa city and be shipped back to Michigan.
They took delivery Febuary 2nd 1985. I saw it soon afterwards and fell in love with it. I was dateing their daughter at the time so I tell every one I married her to keep track of the car so some day I could buy it.
The car was driven on vacations for a couple years, places like Missouri where family still lived and to Bronson to go to country music shows.
For some reason I never under stood mom refused to drive the car or even ride in it after it got 50,000 miles on it. Always told us she was afraid that old thing would break down.
Dad had retired by that time so told mom to drive his Buick Park Avenue and he would use the LeSabre. It became is baby and was even better taken care of then the excellent care it had before.
Dad passed away in 2009 so the car just sat in the garage till 2011 when mom asked me to push it out side so her oldest daughter who was moving in with her could put her junk in the garage.
At that time i started asking mom to sell me the car. she wouldn't drive it and she just wasn't driveing at all any longer.
She kept saying no.
to be continued later. time to get ready to take it to a show.
