I went up to visit family in the North East of the UK last week and on one of the days we went to visit St. Mary's Lighthouse lighthouse in Whitley Bay. I've not been there for years, but I remembered (from a school trip decades ago!) that there is a great place nearby to go looking for fossils and interesting geology.
I only had 20 mins whilst my family were looking around the base of the lighthouse, but I scrambled over the rocks to go seeing what I could find
.
Sadly, I didn't find any interesting fossils this time, but I did snap some photos of the really interesting cliff face - I particularly like the one with the coal seam at the bottom. There was lots of anthracite just laying around!
