We have recently bought a house and the front and side ground and first floor walls are covered in Virginia creeper. We really like the lovely green in the summer and the red in the autumn.

However I don't think it's been pruned in a long time and there is a lot of old branches covering the walls. It's quite extensive with some pretty chunky branches.

It's nearly winter now so it's just the bare branches. If I was to cut it down just above ground level and pull everything above the stumps off the walls, will it grow back easily enough in the spring? And will it be easy enough to trail back across all the walls it covered?

😁 It can grow up to 20' in one year !! I have it climbing my fence, which I do not want. I cut it to the ground in spring, by early summer it's 5-6' long !! I'm glad you love it, someone needs to !! 😂

What are the walls made of? Anything less than stone blocks will be seriously damaged in trying to remove the branches. It may be better to clean up any dead branches and leave what’s most firmly attached.
