I watched this video from 1936 of the production of Chevrolet cars.
The amount of automation 85 years ago was impressive despite the number of workers required.
'elf n' safety would have had kittens about how dangerous it was, particularly near the end with the chassis fabrication. Where several men worked all day with automated heavy machinery going back and forth either side of their work station, missing them by inches every few seconds.
Protective gloves, unless worn when handling molten steel, were obviously only for sissies.
