Pruning for other people is always a thing, I remember my father complaining that people paid fifteen shillings for a young apple tree, then wanted him to prune it and he cut off seven and sixpence worth
Anyway, I found myself in a similar position with a friend who bought a rose last year, she wanted it to grow in a pillar by the front door, and I pruned it back quite drastically. She is in London, so a fair bit ahead of us. London temperature is about 2 degrees higher, and she phoned me today to say it was beginning to look exactly the way she wanted. Yippee.
