This is my first year growing garlic and I'm a little unsure of when it's ready. Here's a couple of pictures. Should I let it grow more or dig it up.

I've never grown garlic but if they are like onions I would let the tops fall over before harvesting, unless you want to eat it before then.

Everything I have read so far, talks about the the bottom leaves. They say if the bottom 3 are brown then they are good to harvest. I have also read that it's the top leaves that need to be brown.

We planted them in a bad spot because it was a last minute decision to grow them. They are not uniform in size but we have a better place for them this year.

So I decided to harvest them as soon as the ground is dry from the rain we got yesterday.

Mine were exactly like that. Some were skinny and some were thick. Most leaves were brown and some were falling sideways.
I harvested it all yesterday and the skinny ones didn’t have much of a bulb as expected but the rest were great.

I am hoping to have a few good ones to replant this fall. Then we will eat the smaller ones.
