What is this?

I received this plant as a gift and I am not sure what it is. I have tried to grow it inside and outside with no luck. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It's a Pteris fern, also called Brake fern. It likes moderate to bright light indoors and shade outside. It is subtropical so it needs protection from hard frosts(below 25 F). It looks pretty bad and it's been a while since you posted so I wonder if it still alive.
