Hello all,
I am in Ontario Canada, plant hardiness zone 5B. I have two flower beds at the front of my bungelow (each about 20' long), separated by the front door stoop, along the foundation wall. The bed is raised, defined by a stone retaining wall, and about 3-4' wide. The beds are under the roof overhang, so they rarely get natural rain. The front of the house faces north, so sunlight is available only for the few morning hours, before shade takes over around noon and carries though the rest of the daylight hours.
I've only failed trying to plant these beds up, and not doubting it's for the most part my lack of knowledge on appropriate plant species, but not an abundance of unique plant options I have to select from from the local greenhouses.
Turning here to the pros and successful enthusiats to suggest some appropriate plant material to plant up this area. I'm looking for unique texture and colour (ideally from spring to fall), a mix of perennial, annual and woody material perhaps.
