Devil's Ear lettuce might just be my all time favorite lettuce. It produces massive heads with the best taste of any other variety I've grown.
Tip: I only harvest the large bottom leaves, leaving a kind of naked "trunk" as it grows. This way, I keep my plants producing much longer and I can eat the largest, most flavorful leaves.
Devil's Ear is also super rare! It is an old French heirloom and I don't know why it's not on everyone menu!
