"But organic fertilizers don't have enough nitrogen to make my plants grow fast." I have heard this so many times from so many uninformed people I could scream. Blood meal has 13.25% nitrogen content.. Blood meal has many uses one of which is as a compost pile starter. One place that you do not use blood meal is on legumes as they fix nitrogen atmospherically. Everything else loves it, especially plants with a lot of green leaves. Blood meal can burn young roots on seedlings and is recomended at no more than 4 oz per square yard. I use it on individual plants usually as a side dressing at about 1 tablespoon per plant. In compost tea a couple of tablespoons. As a side benefit it also deters rabbits and deer.
