I have been eating more fruits and vegetables but I need to get even more so that I can lose weight. I'll be going food shopping for me soon so that I can load up on the produce.

Be careful not to overdo the fruit. It is good for you, and you should definitely have some, but it contains, on average, the same level of sugar as Coca-Cola, and can be a diabetes risk if overdone.

Fruit smoothies have about the same amount of sugar as a Coca Cola? Did it misread that? I always thought you could have as much fruit as you want and be ok because the sugar is natural.

Well fruit can, of itself, lower diabetes risk, but if it's processed, the sugars are "set free" and can cause that insulin spike.
To be safe, and, let's face it, to enjoy fruit at its best, eat it whole (not swallow it whole) and fresh.

Natural sugar is safer because it's slower in being broken down. Processed gets absorbed faster. Berries have the lowest amount of sugar of all the fruits. There's veggies with "relatively" high amounts of sugar such as corn, onion and carrot.

That is interesting. So the processing of fruits, such as blending or cooking then is what releases all of the sugar content. I would think that berries would have a high amount of sugar since they are natually sweet at their ripest point, but I guess that is mostly just juice. Thanks for the replies, I learned a lot here.

You do want to be aware of the amount of sugar you are getting from the fruit but you also need to be aware of the fiber you are putting into your system. If you have a sentive system you do not want to overload your stomach with too much fiber.
