Damaged perennial

My grand son mowed down two new forsythia bushes planted in April and a small rose of sharon planted in July. The base is still there on them all,what can I do to help them recover? I am in central Michigan

Take a hand cultivator and gently loosen the soil around the plant. Air-eate the soil but Just make sure the soil doesn't cover up the cut stems. When you start to see new growth let it grow until it gets big enough to take a single stem and grow into a plant.
