One Yukon Potato dug. Weight of tubers 5 pounds.Vegetation had died off so this would be end of growth cycle. Five to seven pounds is a good yield for this variety.

We grew Yukons for the first time this year, and were amazed that they did well here in Texas (where we had been told that "white" potatoes didn't do well and we should just grow reds). They taste great, too!
Nice crop, nice yield per plant, Durgan. Congratulations!

Here is the results from a test I ran.

Yukon Gold Potatoes were harvested today. A total weight of 23.5 pounds was harvested from the 4 by 4 foot test area. The quality is excellent. Another plant could probably be placed in the center of the area without crowding. The average weight per plant was 5.9 pounds. From my experience anything over 4 pounds is acceptable.

Yukons sound great. I wish I could grow them! Potatoes are one of my favorite vegetables, because they're very versatile. I love them baked:)

I too have had trouble with potatoes splitting, my NVS Amour.
This summer has been shocking; record low temperatures and the lowest average temperatures for 20 years or more.

Why can't you grow Yukon Gold Potatoes? I only eat my potatoes baked in a Dutch Oven, served with a bit of butter for flavor.Truely the food of the Gods.

Usually one potato is eaten daily (Yukon gold, Black Russian, Viking) and I consider the potato to be a food of the gods. It is baked at 400F for one hour and served with butter. Potatoes are my main source of starch. My dog, Ginny, enjoys a dish of potatoes. The tuber is storing well in the root cellar.

You need the right climate for Yukon Gold.
They are prone to splitting, and if I tried to grow them here in Cheshire, they'd all be wasted, unfortunately.

Currently, I don't have a garden:( I grow all my plants indoors, in pots. Can potatoes be grown in a container? My apartment is rather small:(
This sounds delicious! I always eat baked potatoes with onions and basil:)

Yukon Golds are my favorite potatoes! I like to get the baby kind and douse them in olive oil, thyme, rosemary, and salt and pepper. I bake them in the oven for about 45 minutes and they are the perfect side dish for steak or fish. I could live on baby Yukons!
