Could anyone please tell me what this growth on our Yacca plant is?

Are you referring to the bloom spike, that tree looking thing? It's going to flower and that's where the blooms will be.

After it flowers and the flowers fall off it will die and look like a dead stick. You can cut it off if you like or not.

Its the flower. Once its done blooming cut it off.
