I have a couple of sage seedlings in a window that's only getting about 2 hours of (afternoon) direct sun right now. There is plenty of indirect light, just minimal direct sunlight. I plan to buy some lights, but the sages were delivered early. Is it possible they might live a couple of weeks without supplementary lights?

Sage seedlings need a lot of direct light. Without it they tend to get leggy...but it sounds like you have no choice. To be successful, get the light on them as soon as possible.

Leggy, yes, but I would expect them to survive, like Meadowlark says, give them extra light as soon as you can.

Just a thought, I don't know if you are thinking of other things, but rather than getting young plants delivered it would probably be cheaper to buy a packet of seed to plant now and have germinating by the time the lights arrive.

Thanks everyone! Any recommendations for good places to mail order seeds in the future?
I ended up shopping at a big box store that had a bunch of stipulations about which items they would deliver.

Do you have access to Johnnys seeds? I also am not opposed to going to Walmart either they have a decent selection.

Thanks. I actually did use Walmart this time around, but since I couldn't go there in person (health limitations) their inventory/availability/pricing got a bit weird. Looks like Johnny's and Burpee do ship to me, though.

That's good to hear they can reach you! I have sage and I love it, I just do it hydroponically though. It's a very oily herb lol. If you rub your fingers on the leaves you will get this sticky sage oily residue.

It smells so good. I already want to make things with it.

I grow indoors and have noticed that many seedlings will grow too tall too fast if they're not getting enough light. Like they're reaching out and over the edge of the pot to chase the light. So the little stem gets too long and they fall over.
I'm using a bunch of Feit Electric LED grow bulbs.

I'm hoping to get light on them before that happens, but I guess since they're herbs I could just eat the tops if it does? Ha. How do you like those bulbs? Are the just in regular lamps? I found some flat led lights from Barrina that I'm hoping should be bright enough for my purposes.

Updating to add that my sage and now mint are both doing pretty well after about a week or two of limited sunlight, and now they have supplementary light. The mint got a little squiggly and long but all of them still look relatively healthy! :)
