Will my money tree survive?

I have had my money tree for a year and a half and it’s my favorite plant. I made the mistake of repotting it about a month and a half ago, thinking it needed a larger pot. Although the pot had drainage, the soil was too compact and the soil didn’t dry for weeks. Several of the leaves turned yellow and brown and fell off.
About two weeks ago I mixed the soil with perlite and put it back in it’s previous container. The soil has dried, except for around the roots. I took the plant out and let it dry for a few hours yesterday. A root was damaged and I took it off.
I haven’t watered the container, but I did run the roots under water to get a better look at them. I’m now having the problem where the plant is too top heavy for the dry soil and tips on occasion.
Since I’m not familiar with how root rot looks, or how a damaged trunk looks, I’m hoping the pictures here will help you advise me on what I should do next.
Any advice is appreciated!!!
