I have seen so many beautiful photos of red plum blossoms in China. But all of the plum trees I have ever seen have pale white - light pink blossoms. Does anyone know what variety of plum tree has such dark blossoms?
Thank you!

Prunus Mume ?

From Wikipedia : "The flowers are 2–2.5 centimetres (0.79–0.98 in) in diameter and have a strong fragrant scent.[10] They have colors in varying shades of white, pink, and red. (...snip...) In Japan, ornamental Prunus mume cultivars are classified into yabai (wild), hibai (red), and bungo (Bungo Province) types. The bungo trees are also grown for fruit and are hybrids between Prunus mume and apricot. The hibai trees have red heartwood and most of them have red flowers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prunus_mume "

I'm also finding lots of mention of Armeniaca Mume, which they call "Red plum blossom" but seems to be an apricot. https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs...=yhs-mozilla-003&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-003
