Might be a Cereus forbesii, although there are an awful lot of columnar cacti in cultivation.

Most of them want to be trees and can grow at about 6 inches a year.

See the 5 columnar cacti at the back?

These are the same ones 3 years later...

It must be in a drained pot or the roots will rot off and it'll die

You are right to water only once a week and then only if it has been hot, Don't water from October to March, they go dormant in the winter. You're right to let the soil dry out before watering again :)

Stony compost helps the drainage, top dressing with grit keeps moisture away from the base of the plant where it might cause rot. It also looks pretty :D

I was wondering, does it get cool in Israel in the winter? I've only been there in May and that was lovely cactus weather :D

Well not cool like Europe but pretty cool at least for me .
The degrees are around 18 at the morning and 8 at night.
Today it's been like 40+ degrees but it's really rare that it gets that high so I guess it's been a great day for my cactus haha .
And I hope you had a good staying here you are welcome to visit again .

That sounds good for your cactus, some like it colder in the winter but a columnar one will probably be best above 5 Celcius.

I still remember the gardens in Jerusalem and the smell of Rosemary at 40+ degrees 🙂

Thank you 😊 I don't know if the girl with the goat will still remember me?
