Hi,
I am a newbie and wondering by what’s wrong with my roses. I got these in mid Dec 2021 in zone 9b sunny and dry from Home Depot. I think these are mother of pearls but might also be eternal flame. 3 of those in the same batch is yellowing, with one worse than the rest. They are all planted with rose soil and plant tone. They are in a sunny spot. I did put more iron tone and fish emulsion yesterday but it is declining slowly and want to keep it alive.
Any suggestions to help it will be greatly appreciated. I have been watering it every other day and yesterday when I touched the soil it was dry. I double checked and water is leaking from bottom as well. Should I flip it out and check inside soil or something?
Thanks

This does look like a nutrient deficiency, likely iron, but multiple deficiencies are possible. There are two points to note about this.

Firstly, plants grown in a container should be fertilized with a complete fertilizer, to assure that all nutrients, both macro and micro are accounted for. You can choose to add many single nutrient fertilizers instead, but this ends up being more laborious and expensive. Also you are likely to miss one or two with such a complex system.

Secondly, many metallic nutrients do not travel well into older tissue. Basically, they must be laid down at time of growth and development. Therefore, even if the plant is now properly fertilized, you may not see a complete improvement until new leaves grow to replace the yellowed ones now present.

Thanks Marck. So it will just take time and I should t disturb the new roots and flipping it out to check the soil inside, correct? Just baby it and feed it and hope for the best?

Repotting won't help with a nutrient deficiency. There is no need to incorporate the fertilizer into the soil as long as a fast-acting, liquid fertilizer is used. Of course, the soil must drain well and irrigation should be sufficient, but not excessive.

Thank you.
I just put fish emulsion+ iron tone yesterday (Tue). I will put some fish emulsion again Thursday.

Thanks again

Apply any fertilizer according to directions for dosage and frequency. Of course, fish emulsion and iron-tone are relatively dilute, so more is applied. These two fertilizers do contain some amount of all of the most commonly deficient nutrients, though they may not be fully complete for micro-nutrients.

Any suggestions on what else to add?
I used plant tone, rose tone, worm casting when planting back in Dec. I have moved them to more sunny spot (it’s still spring so they should be ok). Iron tone and fish emulsion was the new on Tues.

At the moment, use what you have. If those don't work, there are fertilizers that are more concentrated and that include all micro nutrients. The three good things about concentrated fertilizers: less expensive, more adjustable, and less filler that can become an issue with drainage in containers.
