What's wrong with my peach tree?

We have discovered that we have a peach tree in the garden. We haven't been here very long and it didn't fruit last year - possibly it was too dry. Unfortunately some of the peaches have developed greenish spots - does anyone know what might have caused this - is it mould or fungus and is there anything I can do to treat the tree to stop this happening next year? Should we have sprayed it with something in the spring?

What caused that is called bacterial spot and is fairly common in some older varieties of peaches, most new varieties now are resistant. It is fairly easy to control if you spray when the tree is in bloom. Another key to control is to through the tree now removing any cankered or damaged branches as the fungus overwinters in those areas. Here is an article which should you out http://msue.anr.msu.edu/news/management_of_bacterial_spot_on_peaches_and_nectarines
