So... every once in awhile I like to order seeds. I can't help it. I get thinking about it and like to also just try out various things. And then every once in awhile I'll see something cheap and think let's do an experiment...

Well this time I saw an add for potato seed. And it was a lot of seed for cheap. I wasn't sure how they could ship and sell it cheap. But they did. And then it arrived. And the package is supposed to be potato seeds. But it came in a really small bag.

What the heck is this? Does it work? I've never heard of potato seed that is small before. But it could work or it might not. I don't know. But just a week ago red fleshed apples I didn't think existed either. So I thought I'd see what you think. You can see the pic.

And since its sealed does this mean it could be stored longer than just 1 season? If it were seed in the larger type then it wouldn't be storeable as long probably?

Godd quality! Wow

If it's true botanical potato seed it'll look like tomato/pepper seed but it's smaller

This guy does lots of it
Supposed to store for a decade

But it's decently uncommon so maybe you just got scammed

Most modern varieties are sterile because it improves yield, you'll see them flower but you rarely see a small green fruit. I grew some last year and I'll say it got eaten badly by potato beetle when the other potatoes weren't, and i think it's because young plants can't make the solanine in high enough concentrations to deter the pests, so my plants died. I think if i babied them they would have made alright potatoes in the end, so take good care of them while they're little, start indoors

Probably you have tetraploids which are the ones we're used to but wild potatoes are diploid and struggle outside of the andes

The reason you would grow these isn't to get a good yield first season, it's to purge the variety of viruses and disease and maybe hopefully get better genetics in the future. Oh and potatoes don't store very well so in case you lose your potatoes you probably won't lose all your seed
