What on earth is this on my garlic?

Never had this happen before. I’ve seen the curly scapes but never this?

It looks like wheat or barley. Did you use any kind of straw around your garlic?

Lol yes I’m dumb. I realized upon closer inspection it wasn’t attached to the garlic but rather mixed in and sprouted from the straw I mulched it with.
