What kind of tree is this?

Hi all,
Just a quick question to ensure the best care for a tree in our newly bought home.
To start, I'd need to know what kind it is and if the browning of the leaves is normal (even if we're in the middle of summer).

A Japanese maple?

Looks thirsty and in need of a haircut. I would call a tree trimmer to get max results.

Thanks Brandie! I agree and will be setting up a watering schedule immediately and also address the trimming as well. I looked at images of "Japanese maples" but wasn't able to find similar looking specimens.

I've lived in the same place for 4 years and have several trees of which I have zero clue of what they are. I just water them every 2 weeks (zone 10) with a soaker hose around the drip line.
