It looks like Ficus to me, the bark also suggests that.
Very interesting. Is it possible to get a close-up shot of the leaves (both sides) and branch tips? I don't think this is a Ficus. It reminds me of some plants in the Rose Family (Rosaceae), but I haven't come upon a close match yet.
I'm leaning towards Black Cherry (Prunus serotina), but I do want to see some more detailed photos.
