What is this on last year's Eggplant

My Eggplants began to grow well at the beginning of last season and I thought I was going to get a crop but then there appeared a small black beadle-like bug. Picture attached. Anyone know what this is?

Thanks for the reply. I can't remember if they jumped. I know they disappeared quickly if I disturbed them.
