What is this amongst my new grass

Hello all,
I trimmed the top of my newly sown grass today, and noticed, as in photo, this substance at the base
any advice gladly appreciated

It looks like fungi to me.. looks like it's enjoying the moisture. But I don't know.. I don't know much about grass. Someone here will know if it's harmful to the grass or not.

Yes, it's a fungus feeding on the organic matter you used as topper after seeding. It is not a problem for the grass, other than it can become hydrophobic if it dries out. In areas with a lot of it you can break it up with your fingers or a trowel.

You can just wait a bit, it looks like a slime mould to me, once conditions change it will disappear. Firstly it will use up what it is living on, secondly the grass will grow and get thicker. If anything it is probably good for the grass, breaking stuff down and making it available.
