My winter-sown seeds in milk jugs have started germinating. Zig zag goldenrod is the first!

Found a bunch of seedlings I don't immediately recognize, but after thinking about it I believe these are likely helianthus petiolaris. If so, I'm glad they reseed so well. I don't want them in this garden this year, but I have a place I can relocate them to.

I have some of those seeds planted in my pollinator garden...looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

One of my favorite prairie plants. They're so different than everything else and look more like a desert plant. I sowed some more in a new garden last year and I'm hoping some will appear this year.

I didn't mention this in my other post, but my small garden expansion happens to line up with one of my downspouts, so it will also function as a small rain garden. Water will temporarily collect there and then be filtered by my native plant roots as it soaks in. I can't wait to get the plants established!

With this morning's heavy rain I've even been able to confirm that it correctly overflows away from the house. I will need to adjust the soil a bit so it collects more water to the right, but flow-wise it looks good!

I dug up these heuchera yesterday and divided and potted them. This was originally 4 plants over 5 years ago. They were in a shady spot under a north facing window. They did OK but uglier out I thought so im going to try something different under that window. Maybe some hostas or ferns but not sure yet.

No idea what I will do with the heuchera. Most of it will take some more work to get them looking good.

Im just happy it doesnt cost me any money to do this type of stuff.

Now I need to clean all the rock up and prep the area for what ever comes next.

Daffodils did good this year. This is just area. I have them in several areas and some are still just starting to bloom.

The myrtle (oops that's periwinkle) is starting to bloom. I dug out a bunch of stuff that I had been cutting back every year to make it look nicer. Not sure what they were maybe redbuds. It all started growing as I cleared the area. I didnt know it was there ten years ago.

My potato plants have already bloomed...a good sign for production.

@gary350, are you going to conduct the experiments you mentioned previously:

1) what is the effect on production of removing the tops completely at 60 days? Good or bad?

2) what is the effect on production of fertilizing with high Nitrogen levels at 60 days? Good or bad??

3) what is the effect on production of a freeze killing the tops back at about 30 days? Good or bad?

$) what is effect of 6-inch spacing vs 12-inch spacing?

I intend to do that this year...it would be interesting to compare results.

I cleaned out the rock and started removing the clay and digging in some drainage. This area seemed too high to me always stayed wet too long.

Commercial growers claim larger harvest. 27 degree freeze killed my tops.
