The sun peaked through after an afternoon thunder shower yesterday to shine on the black eyed susans and illuminate some lantana, marigolds, zinnias, and okra and corn further back.

Flowers and more flowers blooming and no butterflies in sight.

This time last year this spot was overrun with giant swallowtails and gulf fritillary...this year none to be seen in spite of many more flowers/nectar. Last year was drier...maybe that is a factor?

In spring, I bought native sunflower seeds to plant in memory of my grandma. Plains sunflower (helianthus petiolaris) began blooming this morning!

@JBtheExplorer ...how much longer will you typically be seeing the Monarchs?

I'm looking forward to seeing them go through here the next two months.

Most will be gone by the end of September but the very last ones will still be here until about mid-October.
