Yes, @Sheal that could well be. A marrow, as I understand is a courgette/zucchini that has been left to fully mature.

I have never grown marrow per se, but many many zucchinis. It looks more like yellow squash to me, however. Time will tell and it shouldn't be long.

Seems very interesting that @Gary and I, separated by 1000 miles would see the same in cabbage seeds. Makes me think the seed supplier has contaminated seed. Suppliers seed can go into many different brands/packages.
I wouldn't think it's contaminated seed because cabbage seed is tiny tiny and squash seed is big, you'd notice the difference, but why did it volunteer there?

Either someone threw out a fruit or seed was planted earlier (most likely this spring) but refused to germinate until now

Odd how it followed garys row, so my guess planted

Good news is squash leaves are edible

That is a good point. Here is what I now think happened...

The cabbage seeds were all started indoors in my own starter soil which has compost in it...compost that included excess squash fruits from the spring crop. It is possible that a squash seed survived the composting and ended up in my home-made seed starting mix. I germinated so many seeds this fall I just failed to notice the strange one at transplant.

That's my story ...now...and I'm sticking to it. Where the plant is located has not had a squash plant growing there for several years.

Re seeded my front and back lawns because they have been torn to shreds by foxes and badgers and have not recovered from the hot dry summer we had. Surprisingly my neighbours lawns have recovered and no they have not been watering them.

Replacing the turf where badgers are ruining my front lawn as well as neighbours. Is there anyone who knows a good deterrent. They are protected in the UK and I can not kill them.

I did a good bit of research @Sluggy on badgers and here is what I came up with:

The badgers are after food...specifically grubs and crane fly larvae.
The single most effective control method is eliminating that food. Badgers dig only when food is present. After that, use ultrasonic or motion‑activated deterrents to keep them away at night.

Beneficial nematodes (Heterorhabditis bacteriophora) are the most reliable, humane way to eliminate grubs and crane fly larvae. Once the food source disappears, badgers stop visiting. There are products here for just over $20 that do that but not sure about your area.

Watered the polyanthus around the path in the front garden, watered the azaleas and rhododendrons in the back garden, planted up 2 large pots with tulips and daffodils.

I picked the Bramley apples today as it was very windy, 32 mph here. Apart from a few pears at the top,
most of the conference pears were picked a few days ago.

Watered and looked over dying trees. It is cooler but that is not helping the lack of moisture.

My Garden Plants I’m watering are looking great other than Deer having a snack.

Badgers hunt by scent, I notice the bed I have bordered with lemon balm and the one bordered by lavender don't get touched. I have seen it suggested to leave a small radio playing all night and to use citrus scents as deterrents.
I'll have cheese and pickle in my roll please, the Dower house chutney my missus makes.
Mostly turning the compost heap, making a new one, and sieving it through as I go. Planted some peas to overwinter in the greenhouse, tried it last year and they were well early and very good, Kelvedon Wonder, a low growing variety. I think mice thinned out the ones I planted earlier, that or really bad germination.

I am too stupid to grow cabbage & broccoli seeds in trays. I planted 144 seeds in trays & 1 broccoli plant grew. I planted 60 broccoli & 30 cabbage in the garden and about 1/2 the seeds grew. Today I replanted seeds that did not grow. 6 weeks later still not much is growing. The Red lettuce plants grew ok I only had to replant a few seeds. I have a good crop of grass in the seed trays. Tomorrow hurricane rain will arrive for 3 days. Family that left FL to escape 130 mph wind should be at our house about 12 noon. I ordered more broccoli seeds.
