Try the board method I mentioned. It works for me...even in temps above 100 degF 🤠
The board method works good to sprout carrots but 1" of soil works good too. Oct about 5 years ago I made 4 potato hills 30' long but planted carrots seeds on top of the hills not potatoes. Then I covered tops of the hills with 1" of soil. TSC store sells 2 oz packages of carrot seeds for $8. May I pulled up 4000 carrots. This was a good idea but 4000 carrots was not a good idea.

Not here. If you bury carrot seed 1 inch deep here, you will get virtually zero germination...no matter what time of year you try. The only germination will be on seeds that escaped the one-inch covering.

Typical carrot varieties have over 9000 seeds per ounce. 2x9000 = 18, 000 seeds.

The only thing I find surprising about 4000 carrots from over 18,000 seeds is that you didn't get far more. That is only about 20% if my math is good which is a very low % in my experience...but I could be wrong. No offence intended but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

p.s. on the board method I see about 80% germination rate. Just for fun I asked AI what the typical germination rate for carrots is:

"Under standard direct‑sow conditions, carrot seeds germinate at about 40–60%. With improved moisture control via boards, rates commonly rise to 70–85%, and controlled tests have shown up to 89% germination."

These cucumbers are amazing. The first butternut squash of the fall. The zucchini and yellow crookneck are blooming and soon will have fruit....

Low germination for sure and it could be because we typically get 3 ft of rain from March to May 1st. Rain rounded the tops of the hills off I watched it rain and worried if there will be any seeds at all left to germinate. Garden is mud for several months I planted seeds early.

I have planted seed in a container and watered a bit heavily, all the seedlings came up in the side they had washed over to. Now I remember to use the rose.

Rain forecast for tonight/tomorrow, so I ran the rake over the lawn on the highest setting, then seeded over. It really needs more than the rain forecast, sod's law, it will probably come as an El Ninio (?) driven flood, but I am near the top of the hill.
Made up and planted a container of carrots, lost three tomato plants with only four green tomatoes between them, they are on the windowsill in the sun room with a few others. Swept, collected up failed pots and emptied them to help fill the carrot container, I also added some compost I grew a tomato in, some very old manure, a bit of sand, and an eye of newt. Watered some stuff. A pleasant day.

Did some more weeding and watered the polyanthus around the path, managed to keep some of them going through the summer.

I've been patiently waiting all summer to get this project going. Started today, finished removing about 1/4 of the lawn I need to remove for it. I'll work on it a little here and there and hopefully have it done over the next week or two. I'm in no rush since I have about three months before I can sow seeds anyway.

Another method of growing carrots from seed or other things is to buy a length of plastic roof guttering. Pour in seed compost and sow. When sprouting dig a trench and slide in the seedlings.

I planted 350 carrot seeds in this 18"x36" rectangle made from 2"x2" boards. Now we wait and C what happens. It has not rained here in about a month.
