learning how to farm in this game called Rust -- Rust is a horrible digital environment and i wouldnt recommend playing it to anyone -- this base was actually set up by someone else and just a bit after i took this screenshot we were raided and they stole everything, including the base--

I seem to be endlessly tying up and pruning tomato plants lately, cucumbers too, tying them up and watering them.
Checked some of the cuttings I took from side shoots, plenty of roots and looking very healthy. I do this because we normally limit tomatoes to three or four lots of flowers so we get good size fruit, and this gives me plants that will be fruiting toward the end of Summer and into the Autumn, but our last couple of summers have been so warm I am going to try a couple of plants without stopping them, see if I can grow them the American way, upward and onward.

Bought some 3 gallon pots for my Cacti. They are needing bigger. I’m surprised they are doing so well with the rain.

Bought some Bamboo for Tomato Plants. And some Perlite.

Moved my Peace Lily into my Bedroom maybe she will be happy.

Looked at some 4 inch pots for stuff next year. Been using 6 inch.

Mowed, figured that all the rain we have had and more coming I had best do it today when it's dry. Did a bit more on the new pond and rill, cemented in paving stones where that goes under the path. Levelled out the bloody great hole badger dug in the middle of a potato row, Grrr. Watered a couple of things , but not a lot. Bit of this, bit of that, tying up the odd tomato, pruning off the odd side shoot, sweeping up, tidying

Planted a few more Mexican sunflower seeds in the gaps where some didn't come up after seeding a month ago, and pulled some weeds from my new garden areas.

made a new base, still learning how to farm...digitally in Rust...took me a while to get this much going. I'm playing counter-cuturally in-game--by that i mean specifically i am building bases with open doors basically. There is something called a "tool cupboard"-- and usually players will protect this behind walls, as destroying it also means the base no longer belongs to you basically-- anyways, ive positioned my tc out in the open, and with open doors, built an open farm. There is like a super deep level of electronics in this game, a lot of potentially engineering and players go really intense with it... i dont know any of that stuff but the basics so far and barely even that. Anyways here i grew some hemp as an alternative wood source to trees (this is not really how it is used in game, as hemp is only converted to cloth in game (but in my mind i am trying to save the trees) -- paradoxically i had to cut down trees to build the base. It is possible to build a base without cutting trees by harvesting wood stumps.
Anyways, like i said before, i dont recommend this game at all unless you play on a pve server, maybe not even that, -- yeah no i dont recommend the game at all but i have used it as a learning experience-- mostly about resisting negativity, increasing positivity, maintaining/increasing morale in the face of external factors influencing a decrease.
I imagine a lot of gardeners have a lot of insight that occurs while gardening. Being able to focus on life and creation is a beautiful thing.
Anyways, yesterday I checked in on a hydrangea i planted a while ago (in real life) -- yesterday I checked on it and it has the most beautiful little flower blooming. ill post a picture in my next update.
❤️

I thought I'd start a new thread that can be continuously updated by everyone any day of the year. We have people on the forum from all around the world, so there is always somebody doing something with their garden. I think it would be nice to check in and see what our members have done. So whether you've been busy today or busy three months from today, here's the question... What did you do in your garden today?

I spent today preparing my vegetable garden. I had tons of weeds to pull. There's some kind of invasive grass that pops up in there, along with creeping charlie, so I pulled as much as I could find. I can start planting in about four weeks, so it's nice to have it all ready for the season! If I remember right, peas seeds can be planted before the average last frost date, so I might plant them soon. As some of you may know, growing fruits and vegetables is only a small hobby for me. I'm not into it as much as other forum members. I grow peas for my pond fish, as well as couple of tomato plants, pumpkins for decoration, strawberries, a blueberry bush, and a peach tree. I'm also trying lettuce this year. Tomorrow, I may add a few native plants to the outside edges of my vegetable garden so it looks a little more showy throughout the season.
We just pulled a lot of creeping Charlie from around the blueberries. It sure goes crazy if you don't keep up with it. I'm thinking of using garden cloth between my berry rows. Theyre not very long. I dislike plastic but my back really disliked that work 😆

Planted Zucchini Squash, Jalapeño Peppers and Okra. Planted Marigolds and Borage throughout.

Hoed some Marigolds and mulched them. Did bunch more mulching and quit for the day.

The first of many weekly garden corn harvests today...hopefully continuing through August. The corn looks good, not spectacular maybe, but the real measure of it around here is the taste.

About 3 baker's dozen to start the season today...

Reclaimed another neglected bit, need to fertilize it and give it a second quick dig over, then maybe plant out some kale. Hoed over the bit I rough dug a few days ago and a few other bits, nice and easy now it's had some rain on it. Whilst clearing up found a white bag that had had logs in, planted some potatoes in it, white might help keep the roots a bit cool, though I will still shade it, and it's a heavier bag than the usual plastic sacks. Cleaned up some steps that had got very overgrown, and a small bed next to them. Moved a Choisya that had not been doing well into the small bed, it had beans in last year and was a compost heap the year before, so the soil is not bad, hopefully it will recover a bit.
Tomorrow is supposed to rain, and I am going out so not a lot will happen.
