First tomato for me today to try to keep up with @tundra. It isn't much to look at but being first makes it special. Heavy rain and storms predicted soon so went ahead and brought it in.

With impending heavy rain, I thought it best to bring in any onions that were showing close to ready.

About 1/2 the harvest filled my little golf cart...estimated 100 pounds of onions. They need drying prior to storage and that may prove to be difficult depending on how long predicted storms last.

Took care of the animals after reading my Bible.

Was getting ready to eat Breakfast when my wife said I needed to go in for Blood Work.

Told ok after I ate.

Come home mowed half the Front Yard. Took the rest of plant's out of the Greenhouse.

Have a beautiful Snake Plant told her it has a New Home in my Bedroom.

Cut some Leaf Lettuce and pulled some Green Onions.

In an effort to help with the onions drying in this stormy weather, I moved yesterday's pickings to my front-end loader bucket which I can move in and out of protection as needed. It's going to take several days to get them dry enough to store.

Still need to plant them but I got some new native species today!

I went with my mom on a Mothers Day hike and the place we went to had some leftover plants from a plant sale yesterday, all listed as "take what you want, pay what you can".

Trillium, Virginia waterleaf, Shooting star, Dutchman's Breeches x2, and Bloodroot. Some fantastic species! I tried to germinate Virginia waterleaf seeds over winter but nothing has shown, so at least I have a grown plant now. It's an aggressive plant, but great for bumble bees in spring. Not really sure where I'm putting any of these yet but I guess I've gotta figure it out.

Mowed the lawns this morning, not a lot on them it has been so dry, but now, for the first time in weeks, IT'S RAINING. Not a lot, enough to get the ground wet, but it's a start. Glad I got that grass cut.
The greenhouse is a bit blocked up, turned cold suddenly last night and I stood seven buckets of tomatoes that had been out in the sun inside down the centre path, pity it's not warm enough to put them out in the rain, they would like that, soon.

Each year for several years, I have been tracking the largest onion from each respective crop. This year showed a marked decrease in size compared to past years. Insufficient rainfall during the winter growing season is the principle cause.

The largest thus far this year 5 inches in diameter with the runner-up just under 5 inches.

Are you breeding for bigger onions/are you saving your own seeds?
Haven't saved those seeds...yet. I don't allow them to go to seed...but I may try that on selective ones next year.

I love "blooming" onions and huge onion rings and onion slices that totally cover a hamburger bun...mmm
