Today I planted Begonia Seed. Took the Domes I had on my Seedlings and then put them back on.

I knew it was cold in the house. It had got to 48F in my Grow Room.

Heck it was warmer in the Greenhouse.

Freeze damage assessment:

Ice formed on top of containers with water in them overnight, so I'd guess a low of 28 Deg F or so. Definitely a freeze.

The tomatoes under the Nsulate were completely unscathed...one unfortunate plant on the outside edge was slightly burned from wind.

That one plant will be replaced by the best of the second string in waiting:

The potatoes under the Nsulate were virtually unscathed...

Whereas those unprotected sustained significant damage...

Another testament for Nsulate protective fabric. I've been using/reusing that stuff for many years now and it never disappoints.

Meanwhile, my weather forcaster says a "warming trend" will set in now until next October. ;)

Bought a 3m x 2m poly tunnel, it arrived today, unpacked it it and sorted out what's what and put it where I want to build it, that's a job for another day.
Orange buckets have been creeping, moved a bunch with strawberries in round the back of the green house, also some with pea seeds, one upside down with the one with seeds on top of it to foil the mice, then cleared up all the empty ones and stacked them. Bit less like a building site when you look up the garden from the house. Moved a whole bunch of tomatoes down the greenhouse, just kept back the four best of each type, that still gives me 28, plus one Ailsa Craig that looks quite different, a large plant with wider , flatter leaves than the rest. Could be a cross, but I don't know what with, the leaves look more like the bush tomatoes than anything else, but they were in another greenhouse not near the parent, and they tend to be smaller plants as well, it will be interesting to see what it produces.

Got the square of the base of my new poly tunnel laid out and screwed it together at the corners with the first four uprights. It was killing me bending and working at ground level trying to put nuts on bolts at an angle with my left hand. Doh, got a garden chair after the first one, still very slow, but it took the strain out of it.
Went to plant courgette seeds and found I only had four, doubt if I will get 100% germination, I usually grow four plants, and I know my daughter wants one, time to go shopping, Still, I got those in the propagator. I am short on runner bean seeds too, a bunch got damp in them and mould, but they are more delicate, won't be planting them instantly.
Sun came out today and I glanced at the thermometer in the greenhouse, 31C, oops, time to start opening doors and windows, still forecast to be cold over night though, lit a heater for the tomatoes.

Moving around the seedlings to a shadier spot in the conservatory so that they don't dry out. Weeded by the plum tree and trying to dig out a dying rhododendron there but it's becoming difficult.

Planted 4 rows of Potatoes.

Was going to plant 3 but talked my wife into planting 4.

Told her I got an awful lot of eyes might get 5 rows.NO!

Well planted 4 rows still had bunch of eyes. Then remembered from here couple guys talking about spacing one was going 12 the other 6.

Well I was spacing about foot apart so towards the middle I planted 6 inches.

Hey she ask had just enough for 4 rows.

I almost finished building my frame, it still needs a line of rods along the peak of the arch, not sure how I am going to manage that, I am thinking step ladder and pinch the missus's clothes props to hold up the ends whilst I fasten the centre, we shall have tomatoes!

Harvested some more beets today and continuing to thin out the onion row. The onions now are getting to a really delicious size, and we have hundreds more to thin.

Do you have access to N-Sulate protective fabric? It is a wonderful product that provides 6-8 deg F protection. When used with those cheap garden hoops you can make a "tunnel" of just about any size...width, height, length. See above post.

@Chuck recommended it to me several years back and boy is it ever useful. I purchased a roll and still am using the same material I cut back years ago with most of the roll never used yet.

Not advertising ;) , but just mentioning a very effective product for a fellow gardener.
