Put compost through my home made riddle, a piece of aviary wire sandwiched between wooden strips on three sides that fits over the top of the wheelbarrow. Made up three barrows full and spread them to a bit of ground I had cleaned, then put wood round the edges and covered it with sheets of glass so it will warm up a bit ready for planting.

I wouldn't part with my old wood &coal stove for anything.
I normally burn wood for the majority of the winter months, but when it's 0 or below, like we are having this week, you can't beat coal!!
I loaded the stove at 5am this morning with about 30 pounds, and I'm sitting here looking through the spring seed catalogs online with two windows cracked open.
The house got up to 80 degrees, which is way too hot for my liking.
Funny: when I'm working outside planting my veggies, 80 feels cool, but in the house it's unbearable.

Cosy evenings!

I did a survey today of the post freeze damage...we had several days of temps falling into the low teens (deg F). The Kale survived (thrived?) showing zero effects...

Carrots (3 tubs in various stages of maturity) also survived almost unscathed...

Likewise, onions, leeks, and garlic experienced only light damage to leaves but will quickly recover. Looks like the broccoli and cabbage and beets suffered considerable damage but perhaps not fatal...time will tell. The jury still out on Brussels Sprouts but I'm hoping for the best.

That Kale is amazing even in bad weather. It just keeps going and going. Were those outside during the Ice storm?

The bottom photo is Curly Leaf Kale, right? The top not sure of.

I’m not sure but I think most that would be ok here through Winter.

I pulled Carrots lest than week ago.

I give up growing in the Greenhouse but it can be done. I’m keeping it in 60’sF at night.

I’m using sippy pots for my Special Plants. Now I’ve cut them back and reveaging .

Feed them through the top.

I thought they might like it warm so I rigged it for the 80’s then found they like it cooler.

Continued the seed bed prep and gave the spring onion crop a "haircut" which is simply removing the freeze damaged leaves from the plants. They are just about ready to burst forth into the bulbing phase will continue that through to the mid-May harvest.
