Our garden has 1 carrot, I will pull it up about Dec 30, a month of cold weather it should be sweet. Yesterday it rained hard for 2 hrs. 5 mins = 4" of rain. 13 cucumber plants have blossoms already. 5 Rim Rock cantaloupe plants are doing better. I have not seen the 3 little rabbits this morning, they have gotten so they are not afraid of me they keep a distance of about 10 ft away. Zinnia flowers are still looking nice it is fun to set in a chair and watch the, butterflies, bees, & birds. I picked 5 nice ripe tomatoes yesterday, plants need to be trimmed. My son took, 2 Sugar Baby melons and about 35 sweet bell peppers home, melons are almost gone. I need to save more Zinnia seeds soon as mud is gone.

Today picked our first, large, ripe aubergine, the missus is promising aubergine and tomato curry. Yesterday I watered everything with a watering can from the tap, all my butts are empty and it allowed me to do lots of walking, 11,334 steps on my phone, despite being exempted from the hosepipe ban. If I use the hose I use it to fill the butts, which are next to the greenhouses. I reckon I use far less water with a can than I do with a hose as it is all targeted. Planted up some lettuce and spring onions.

I spent a bit of time tidying up this afternoon, pulled a few weeds that popped up after the rain and gave the plants a good soak. It’s simple stuff but I always enjoy those quiet moments in the garden.

Watered just about everything. I did it with the small watering can, carrying too much weight does my shoulder and neck, and the veg plots and greenhouses are the other end of the garden from the tap, looked at the step count on my phone when I finished 11,500, didn't bother going for a walk as usual. I had one day I drove to London to visit a friend and only got 2,000 steps in, but my average over the last eight days is 8,600, not bad and improving.

Some people at our plot use a small wheeled trolley to carry watering cans and heavy items. I sometimes use an old suitcase trolley for bags of John Innes or heavy compost. Depends on axle width I suppose. A stretchy strap might be useful as well to avoid spillages.

I thought I'd start a new thread that can be continuously updated by everyone any day of the year. We have people on the forum from all around the world, so there is always somebody doing something with their garden. I think it would be nice to check in and see what our members have done. So whether you've been busy today or busy three months from today, here's the question... What did you do in your garden today?

I spent today preparing my vegetable garden. I had tons of weeds to pull. There's some kind of invasive grass that pops up in there, along with creeping charlie, so I pulled as much as I could find. I can start planting in about four weeks, so it's nice to have it all ready for the season! If I remember right, peas seeds can be planted before the average last frost date, so I might plant them soon. As some of you may know, growing fruits and vegetables is only a small hobby for me. I'm not into it as much as other forum members. I grow peas for my pond fish, as well as couple of tomato plants, pumpkins for decoration, strawberries, a blueberry bush, and a peach tree. I'm also trying lettuce this year. Tomorrow, I may add a few native plants to the outside edges of my vegetable garden so it looks a little more showy throughout the season.

Watered my back and front garden as had a bad cold. Deciding what to put where for autumn to spring. Very confused:(

I do sometimes use the wheelbarrow with three watering cans, But I am looking to up my step count, the doctor assessed my fitness level purely on that, which is a bit stupid, but I have a GIST, which could mean an operation, and I need to convince them I am fit enough for it if they consider that route. Did 11.6k yesterday.

Last one for 2025. Have to wait until next year to harvest these triple crown seedless melons. It has been a terrific season with the most consistently excellent melons I can recall.

I think you mean shrubs and herbaceous perennials Sheila. If you can provide us with pictures of your garden layout please, it would be a great help regarding suggestions.

Just about anything you wish should grow in Sutton, nice, warm Surrey, but I would start with my Spring bulbs, Darwinian Tulips, the fancy ones need renewing, and then daffodils and various narcissi, so they come up early between things which will flower later. I googled 'Flowering perennials UK' to see what came up, there are some nice, reasonably priced collections, and a lot of individual suggestions, but really it is down to what you like. For example the missus likes salvias, I prefer geraniums, another approach is to visit a few gardens, Wisley is not too far, but I am sure there are others in your area.
