Yes, it's a treat. You gotta pick it at the right time or the malic acid washes out and youre left with tannin water, but at its prime it's not unlike apple juice mixed with a small bit of black tea. I'm surprised it's not more popularSumac, right? Rhus glabra?
As a kid in Missouri, we made what we called Indian Lemonade out of it...good stuff.
Years ago they would mash them up in water and pour them in a line making a fence.@Martin Mikulcik have you had any success at starting osage orange (aka horseapple aka Bodark) from seed?
I really would like to re-establish it here on Meadowlark Ranch as it one was a hundred years ago but my attempts at starting from seed have all resulted in zero germination.
Following the definition of insanity, I have another attempt in progress but not optimistic.![]()

That sounds like a good idea @big rockpile ...but a better one in my opinion is to get some of @Martin Mikulcik seeds. The best germination % by far of anything on the market today. I got near 100% germination from Flyover whereas every supplier I had tried before that had 0% germination. Honestly, you can't beat that.Years ago they would mash them up in water and pour them in a line making a fence.

My seedlings about 65 in number are thriving about 3 feet tall awaiting transplanting this fall into my new old-fashioned fence. If this works, I will be doing more next year.
