This was in a pot of another plant I purchased. Not being sure what it was, I planted it at the very edge of my yard. I have never been able to find it in any of my books, but I haven't really searched very hard. I was wondering if anyone here recognizes it? It has been in the ground for probably 8 years and hasn't become invasive. The plant I bought with it has long since bit the dust, but this seems to keep going.
Hi it’s Kerry again I have just seen the pic.! As I say I’m new to this, I would say definitely not a weed as it has no spread in all this time. It’s lovely anyway.
This is Threadleaf Bluestar (Amsonia hubrichtii), in the Dogbane Family (Apocynaceae). This species is a narrow endemic native to parts of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. The flower color varies between white and pale blue.
Horticulturally, it received a moment in the spotlight somewhat recently, when the PPA selected it Perennial Plant of the Year for 2011.
