I recently got a new plant for my birthday and I’ve tried to find out what species it is but I haven’t been very successful.

The very little information that I have been given hasn’t been very successful in keeping the plant alive so any help with care would also be appreciated!

It's a pitcher plant, Sarracenia . Insectivorous, bog plant, from America. Likes nutrient poor acid soil and to be permanently wet. I grow mine in a mixture of peat and chopped sphagnum moss can add horticultural grit if desired. Live outside in summer, cold greenhouse in winter. Some people grow them in pond margins or bog gardens and leave then out all year round.
