I was looking at peach trees and they were all marked by how many hours they need under 45 degrees or something like this. What exactly does this mean in simple terms?

It means that the tree while in dormancy must have that many hours under 45F to produce fruit.

Does it need to be consecutive? How do you usually go about finding out how many hours your area gets? I'm just confused how to proceed. I guess asking the staff will help.
